Ellie and Ethan are very excited as we pull out of the driveway for our annual pilgrimage to Utah

Even little Owen seems ready for the journey.....Or at least we hope!!

We planned ahead this year and had a little picnic lunch in Flagstaff. It was so great to not be in a huge hurry. We just decided to go with the flow. (A.K.A. - Owen's feeding schedule)

We usually get to Grandma Johnson's LATE at night. Somehow the kids always seem to perk up no matter what time it is. They always look forward to their tradition of "stair sliding".

This pic was taken on Ethan's second attempt. (The first he basically almost tumbled down the stairs - laughing all the way)!!

Every year we go up to Bear Lake to stay in Jeremy's family's house. It was built in the late 1800's and has been used only for vacations since the 50's. It has TONS of character and is such a treasure to the family. On the trip up, we ALWAYS stop at Utah State to get some Aggie Ice Cream.

This year the flavor of choice was ROCKY ROAD!! It kind of cracks me up that we eat Aggie ice cream because both of us went to BYU and I don't think I EVER tried Cougar ice cream:)

The weather was cold going through Logan Canyon, but we couldn't resist stopping by the river to check out the sights!

Did I mention that it was COLD??? We pulled over to touch the snow, but it was too muddy to get out. AND waaaayyyy tooo cold!!

I love this shot of Ellie! She loves horses so much and was in heaven that they were our "neigh"bors for a couple of days.

Another tradition is getting raspberry shakes in Garden City, UT at a place called La Beaus. I recently have broken the tradition to opt for a chocolate M&M shake (much to Jeremy's chagrin).

We always cook out behind the house - this year we were threatened with rain. It felt like we were threatened with snow!! It's always fun to go to Bear Lake because you never know what cousins will be staying at the house. This year it was Jeremy's cousin Doug, wife Theresa and family!!

Ethan LOVED his s'mores, can you tell?

Ellie was equally loving this yummy outside dessert. This year Jeremy mastered the art of the chocolate-stuffed marshmallow. Quite a treat!!!

Here are some of the cousins having breakfast in the "vintage" kitchen. Ethan and Ellie always love to sit in the spots under the stairs! It looks like Ellie had to give up her spot to a cousin:)

Here is the view of the house (the white one in the top center of the pic) from a nearby road. It is so quite and beautiful up there!

We left Bear Lake on Sunday and decided to do a drive-by of the Logan temple.

Ellie ditched us to spend the night with her cousins. On the way to pick her up, we stopped by Hill Air Force Base and toured the museum. Ethan is way into watching "Dogfights" on the History channel with his dad. He loved seeing all the planes from WWI, II and others so close. He was so into it that we got him some dogtags with his name and stats on them. Pretty Cool!

Here he is about to engage in his own dogfight!

We always have to spend a day at the old Alma Mater - BYU!!! We had another picnic south of campus with lots of ducks who wanted our food!

My favorite stop was the new Gordon B. Hinckley building. It is so beautiful on the inside and out! Inside they have the shovel displayed that President Hinckley used to break ground on this amazing building. His children all used the official BYU shovels, but President Hinckley brought one from his shed - a little rusted and the label still on it. It was awesome to touch it and know that it had belonged to our beloved Prophet!

Jeremy left us in the afternoon to go golfing with his brother. I decided that the kids and I needed a little R & R with a little bowling at the Wilk!

Ellie was so great and really worked to develop her skills!

Ethan loved this little contraption and seemed more interested in who was winning!

Owen was basically a train wreck most of the game. We didn't let it ruin our fun. I held him and managed to bowl a pretty respectable game - thank you very much!!! It is always tons of fun to play with the kiddos!! We had a GREAT TIME!!

Thanks for the pics! I love the house up at Bear Lake. It is so green there! It was good to see you guys even though the Laker game may have put a damper on things. I hope you have a safe trip back home.
I'm so glad that you are having a great time and that you are managing to work around Owen's schedule. I'm sure it has been quiet an adjustment:) Loved your blog. Keep it up so we can follow you through your fun summer.
What a champ to blog while on vacation! It was great to see you and hold your little sweetie!
Always love to hear about the Johnson road trips! Keep us posted.
Mary, I have to say that I am so impressed with how much blogging you have been doing lately. I love seeing what you are up to but it does make me miss you more....luckily I get to see you in a week. Yaayyy! It looks like an awesome vacation. It makes me want to hit the road. Love you!!
Love the bowling alley pictures. Did you do the Strike Dance while holding Owen? Those pics brought back some choice memories. I'll admit that I still love to pick up the old bowling balls, strap on the shoes, and hit the lanes. I too have passed it on to the next generation, my kids LOVE it-thank goodness for automatic bumpers:)
